Meeting point: Bologna Strada Maggiore in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Servi.
Surrounded by an airy portico, which conceals the very simple façade, the Church of S. Maria dei Servi, in Strada Maggiore, was built starting from the 14th century thanks to the intervention Andrea Manfredi da Faenza, general of the Order of Servants of Mary, and of Antonio di Vincenzo. The interior, which is very rich in works of art, starting from the famous Maestà by Cimabue, also includes works by Innocenzo da Imola, Alessandro Tiarini, Denijs Calvaert, and other artists of great fame and, above all, houses a rare image of the Madonna dell’Attesa (pregnant Madonna) of Vitale from Bologna. The figure of Mary will be our point of reference for a thematic journey to discover the masterpieces, which, inside the Basilica, narrate the evangelical events and trace the symbols referring to her.
